CHURCH ORGANIZATIONS AND ACTIVITIES


ACOLYTES assist in the various worship services by leading processions, carrying banners and torches, lighting candles, and serving at the Holy Table.

ST. MARGARET'S ALTAR GUILD is made up of men and women whose function is to serve as the priest's partner in making the worship life of the parish run smoothly.  Members have been called as "God's Housekeepers," for their time is spent each week polishing silver and brass, arranging flowers, washing and ironing linen, and setting up Communion for worship services.

ASCENSION CHOIR meets for rehearsal each Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the Robson Room. They are an integral,talented and much appreciated part of the 10:30 service on Sunday.  New members are always welcomed.

CURSILLO is encouraged at Ascension, and many of our members have participated in a Cursillo weekend retreat.

ASCENSION CHURCH WOMEN claims all women of Ascension as members.  Its purpose is to carry out the mission of the church through worship, study, service, and fellowship.

BREAD OF LIFE teams provide meals and "kitchen ministry" by helping in the home where there is a death in the family.

INTERCESSORY PRAYER GROUP meets weekly to share prayer concerns and pray for those who have made specific requests using the Prayer Request form in our church pews.

KAIROS is a ministry which brings the Cursillo movement to prison inmates throughout the state of Louisiana.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS and LECTORS assist the clergy during worship. EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS administer the chalice during the Eucharist.   EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS must participate in diocesan training and be licensed.  LECTORS are trained readers of Scripture and other selected readings for worship services.  Extensive training and commitment are required.

EUCHARISTIC VISITORS assist the clergy in delivering communion to parishioners or other known Episcopalians who are home bound, hospitalized or residing in nursing homes.

MEN AND WOMEN OF ASCENSION CHURCH have a ministry evening on the last Thursday of each month at the Acadiana Outreach Center at 6:30 PM.

THE OLIVE BRANCH is a group of volunteers who seek to stay in touch with and provide gatherings several times a year for parishoners in nursing homes and homebound.

PRIME TIMERS meet at least monthly for special programs of education and fellowship.  Meeting times and events for this group of our more mature members are published in the Tidings, which is the parish newsletter, and in the weekly bulletin.

ST. HILDA'S GUILD is an organization of "prime time" women who gather seasonally for a meal and fellowship.

ST. MARTHA'S GUILD is an organization devoted to assisting bereaved families by hosting a reception in the Owen Room before or after a funeral.

USHERS GUILD OF ASCENSION assists both the priest and family during a funeral service by distributing the bulletins prior to the service, assisting the Altar Guild as needed, monitoring traffic flow during communion, assist the family before, during and after the service as needed and provide general clean up/locking of doors after the service.

VERGERS are appointed by the Rector and serve under the direction of the clergy.  Their duties include superivising the various worship volunteers, coordinating worship services, and other responsibilities as may be directed by the clergy.
